District Governor - John Gillham
District Governor John joined the Scottdale Lions Club in May 1970, following 4 years in Jaycees in Burnie. He then transferred to the Huon Lions Club in 1974 and has been a member there since that time. John has had 34 years on the club's board including 3 terms as president. He has had 13 years on District Cabinet and 4 years on Multiple District Convention committees.
DG John received a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1999 and a Tasmanian Lions Foundation Fellowship in 2003. He is a member of the Australian Lions Pin Trading Club, has had 8 years on its board including a term as president, and was made a life member in 2008.
DG John is a veterinary surgeon / consultant. After graduating from the University of Queensland Veterinary School in 1965, he was employed by the Tasmanian Department of Agriculture in a number of roles including disease investigation and crontrol, veterinary clinical services, veterinary drug registration, animal quarantine and registration of veterinary surgeons. He retired from the Department in 1998. DG John is currently Registrar of the Veterinary Board of Tasmania and consultant on veterinary drugs to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority.
DG John is also a member of the Huon Branch of the Tasmanian Family History Society and a member of the State executive of that organisation.
John has traveled widely overseas, including visits to SE Asia, Japan, the Middle East, UK and Ireland, Scandanavia, Europe, USA, Canade and New Zealand.
DG John is married partner Libby and they have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren.
