Introduction of our District Governor
As penned by Zone Chairman John Medwin 2008/2009
Our District Governor has had a very interesting journey through Lions, firstly as a member of the Launceston Riverside Lions Club for 31 years, where he has held most positions, some of those on more than one occasion.
I well remember joining the District Cabinet in 1989 and meeting this fresh faced Lion who seemed to have an answer for everything, and I then wondered if this was an omen for bigger things to come. So our association goes back many years and has continued with his elevation to District Governor for a second time this Lions year 2008-09.
Obviously I wasn’t disappointed as Lion Tony continued his journey to become District Governor 2003/2004, MD201 Council of Governors Chairman 2004/2005, appointed to run Mission 30 for International President Ashok Mehta in Australia and New Zealand and all the Islands in the South Pacific 2005/2006, his involvement with Campaign Sight First ll. and CSF one, just being a small part of his contribution to the Lions of Tasmania District 201T1. Australia’s Multiple District 201, and Lions Clubs International, Lion Tony is a Melvin Jones Fellow and has been Awarded 3 International Presidents Certificates in Recognition of Distinguished Achievements in Leadership and Services, and two International Presidents Medals for Services to Lions Clubs International.
The measure of the man can be appreciated when no else has ever managed to get the 1st Vice President of Lions International to attend a small District Convention such as ours last year. This man did, and heads are still nodding and wondering, how the hell did he pull that one off, and he has done it again, the newly elected 2nd Vice President for Lions International Sid Scruggs and his Wife Judy who just so happens to be friends of DG Tony will be in attendance at our convention this year at Port Sorell.
Lion Tony and Lions Lady Sally have been married for 43 years and Sally is his backstop and staunchest supporter, they have 2, sons and a daughter, and 8 Grandchildren to occupy and spare time they have.
